Brendan Champion is a Sydney based trombonist, composer/arranger and educator. In 2012 he completed his undergraduate at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music earning a Bachelor of Music with Honours majoring in jazz trombone performance. While at the Conservatorium, Brendan studied jazz trombone under the direction of Dave Panichi and James Greening, as well as studying classical trombone with Scott Kinmont, Associate Principal trombonist for the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.
Brendan has performed with artists such as Taylor Swift, Fleet Foxes, Jessica Mauboy, Middle Kids and Lime Cordiale. He is past alumni of the Australian Youth Orchestra and has worked with symphony orchestras, studio orchestras and in musical theatre. He has worked on cruise ships as a trombonist for Royal Caribbean International and currently holds a full time trombone position with the NSW Police Band.
Brendan regularly provides transcriptions and arrangements for artists all around the world. He has also composed several original pieces for jazz orchestra and other small ensembles.
Brendan is a passionate music educator and enjoys teaching across all styles of music. He has been the trombone tutor for the Department of Education and Communities extra-curricular performing arts program – The Arts Unit – since 2009 and has previously held teaching positions at The Scots College, Fort Street High School and Meriden Anglican School for Girls.
